Painting Practice as Network: the painting-canvas as a sensuous interface within contemporary painting

PhD

Summary

This practice-based research questions how the physicality of the painting-canvas can function as a sensual interface for painting practice, especially in the digital era. The physicality of painting-canvas provides its user with multi-sensory experiences. I propose that the playfulness of painting practice, heightened by the sensuality in interaction with the painting-canvas, can be translated into a rewarding user experience. This research arises from sensuality in our interaction with everyday objects, addressing its timely value, which percolates through living in the era of encouraged contactless interaction through digital interfaces. This research thus can further be interpreted broadly as an attempt to seek a sustainable way of living, which takes care of the sensuality of everyday life.
