Summary

Soraya Mercedes Caraca is a British conceptual artist, her work consists of semi-realist character and creature art. Now retired from traditional artworks, Soraya creates finely detailed conceptual designs based on her love of fiction, and the cinema. All characters and creatures painted by Soraya are original concepts, and she has remarkable skill in creating the stories behind these characters, giving them life and sharing their stories with the world.

The Underdog project

Her most recent work, The Underdog, is a short novella set during a rainy night in London, when you meet a woman called Jake, at a bus stop. With the bus delayed, Jake begins to tell you a story about her life, and something inside you feels inclined to listen – it feels as though you’ve heard them before.

The meeting at the bus stop

The Underdog was created as blend of fiction and thesis, to explore the concept of unconfronted grief. Written as a 2nd perspective mystery, set in modern-day London. The novel brings the reader to the forefront of The Underdog’s tale by turning the reader into an active participant to interact with our case study, and protagonist - Jake.

Underdog sketches

The Underdog will always have a melancholic ending. There isn’t anything to be gained, nor lost by the end of the night we spend with Jake; it’s merely coming to terms with what has already happened. There are other stories to tell of underdogs, and overdogs, but the night you spent in London will be remembered by Jake for a long time.
