Qualm

Qualm is a dynamic guidance system, built around inclusive design principles to improve the lives of those with or at risk of dementia.

As a modular system which can retrofit into existing light systems, Qualm minimises disruption to our homes as well as costs. Different sensory and responsive technologies can be incorporated to grow with user needs and context; for example smell diffusers, audio, and object locators.

In this way, Qualm can keep us safe and relieve stress, whilst synchronising our lights to our circadian rhythms and elucidating our natural schedules. It aims to provide resilience by guiding us; aiding autonomy whilst alleviating the care burden and the positive feedback loop between poor sleep, stress, and dementia progression.
