Rest in Limbo exhibition

From July 22 to July 28, Fitzrovia Gallery hosted the first solo exhibition of British painter Samantha Wilson, titled Rest in Limbo. The exhibition showcased a new collection of delicate and thought-provoking works that explored themes of migration, grief, and empathy for the other, offering a moving and deeply reflective experience.

Rest in Limbo featured 14 pieces, including oil paintings and both small- and large-scale mixed media drawings. These works drew inspiration from a personally curated photographic archive spanning over 60 categories. One notable piece, a new painting titled Leaving Capponi (2024), juxtaposed classical motifs from Jacopo Pontormo’s Entombment (1526) with contemporary images of migration movements from Ukraine (2022), aiming to convey a sense of empathy and care for the displaced.

The positive reception of Rest in Limbo underscores a pivotal and thriving moment in the artist's career, and highlights Fitzrovia Gallery’s ongoing commitment to presenting dynamic and engaging emerging artists in London.

As the exhibition has concluded, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and attended. Samantha Wilson has already begun work on her next body of work, set for exhibition in 2025, titled A Perfect Dichotomy.
